The Whiteferns have fought back late in the first Rose Bowl international against Australia at Eden Park outer oval in Auckland.
The visitors laid a tremendous platform off the back of a century to Beth Mooney, and they appeared headed for a score in access of 300.
At 237 for 3 in the 42nd over the Whiteferns were well and truly staring down the barrel of a big run-chase, but slick fielding, tight bowling and some sensational work behind the stumps by wicket-keeper Rachel Priest, saw the hosts take 7 for 38 to dismiss Australia for 275 in the 49th over.
Priest took three-outstanding catches throughout the innings and backed that up with a tidy stumping late-on.
Lea Tahuhu was the pick of the New Zealand bowlers taking 4/59 off her allotted 10 overs.
