The comeback for Tiger Woods looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better after the 41-year-old withdrew from his next two events.

Citing a back injury for his withdrawal, Woods will miss both the Genesis Open and the Honda Classic.

It is the same injury that saw him exit the Dubai Desert Classic last week following a woeful first round 77.

"My doctors have advised me not to play the next two weeks, to continue my treatment and to let my back calm down," Woods said on his website.

"This is not what I was hoping for or expecting. I am extremely disappointed to miss the Genesis Open, a tournament that benefits my foundation, and the Honda Classic, my hometown event. I would like to thank Genesis for their support, and I know we will have an outstanding week."

The setback is a telling blow to Woods' 2017 campaign with the former world number one looking to play four events over five weeks culminating with the Honda Classic next week.

However, so far he's only played three competitive rounds without breaking par.

His next tournament is yet to be determined with the 2017 Masters at Augusta National on the horizon on April 6.
