Video: New Zealand's Hayden Paddon keen to put the tragedy of Monte-Carlo behind him

New Zealand rally driver Hayden Paddon is keen put the tragedy of the last three weeks behind him when he lines up at Rally Sweden this weekend.

Paddon was involved in a crash at Rally Monte-Carlo last month that resulted in the death of a spectator.

He promptly withdrew from that event in the aftermath.

Paddon said he wanted to pay tribute to the fallen fan with a strong performance in Sweden, but at the same time he needs to refocus on winning a world championship.

"The past is in the past, and I think it's important we try and move forward now," said the 29-year-old.

"The best way to do that is to get back in the car."

Paddon says he likes the Swedish conditions and believes he is a great chance to repeat his 2016 effort when he finished second in the snow.

"Looking forward to getting back in the car, Sweden is an event I enjoy,” Paddon said.

"We had a good result there last year, and to repeat that again would be great."

The Canterbury native is playing catch-up after his early exit in Monte-Carlo so Sweden is an important step in kick-starting his season.

"It's important we try and finish, and I think we have prepared well and we know we have a good car so now we have to the best job we can and let the result come to us."
