Iceland defeating England at the 2016 EUROs in France was one of sport's best underdog stories and while they celebrated on the streets after the match, they also seemed to celebrated in the sheets.

Asgeir Petur Thorvaldsson, a doctor in the anaesthesiology department at Landspitali University Hospital in Reykjavik tweeted that they administered a record number of epidurals over the weekend coinciding with exactly nine months since that famous victory.

The tweet roughly translated to "Set a record for the number of epidurals in the maternity duty this weekend."

When contacted, Asgeir Petur said that he was unsure whether there had been an actual increase in births in the country but it was hugely coincidental that the increase of requests for epidural anaesthesia coincided with that match.

Iceland's fairy tale run at the EUROs was eventually halted by hosts France but they encapsulated the world's imagination with their loyal fans, the now famous Viking Clap and the way they played their football.

England's loss led to the sacking of manager Roy Hodgson and continued the powerhouse's poor run in the knockout phase of the tournament.
