Controversial heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has taken to social media to announce his return to the ring, suggesting a May 13th bout is in the works.

Fury was forced to pull out of his highly anticipated rematch with Wladimir Klitschko in June last year and was stripped of all three of his belts after failing to prove his medical status to the WBO and IBF boxing chiefs on October 5.

Subsequently, his vacant WBO belt was won by Kiwi boxer Joseph Parker after he defeated Andy Ruiz Jr in December.

On Tuesday morning (NZ time), Fury tweeted ""Breaking news" Return of the MAC, may 13th, working on an opponent more news to follow, @frankwarren_tv @btsports @boxnationtv".

Tyson's cousin Hughie is set to fight Parker for the WBO heavyweight title in May which could coincide with Tyson's return.

Meanwhile, Klitschko and IBF heavyweight title holder Anthony Joshua will face off in a blockbuster fight at Wembley on April 10.
