Video: American golfer Cody Gribble gives gator a love slap

If there's anything we've learnt over the last six months, it's that Americans in sport can be kind of crazy.

Nothing demonstrates that more than Cody Gribble.

This tough-skinned Texan golfer wasn't too fazed when he found a gator in his way alongside a water hazard at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in southern Florida.

Instead of slinking past it or running as fast as he could of in the opposite direction like many would have done, Gribble did the most unthinkable thing ever.

He gave it a bit of a love slap.

Waking the gator from its slumber, it crawled to the bank and dived straight into the water with Gribble continuing on like nothing had happened.

Unbelievably, it's not the first time it's happened.

"I've done it a couple times before," Gribble said.

"If you think that's crazy, you should meet my father, Bill Gribble. Next time you see him, have an interview with him. He loves all types of animals.

"I wasn't too worried about it at the time. Those guys, I mean, it's like a jolt, it's quick, they're not going to catch you, they're not going to catch you a couple of steps down. I mean, they're going to get you really quick early, but I'm not in its way. I'm right behind him. It's not going to happen."

Only in America…
