The All Blacks have reportedly contacted the son of former Kiwis enforcer John Lomax in a bid to stop him from playing for the Wallabies.

Melbourne Rebels prop Tyrel Lomax made his starting Super Rugby debut last weekend, but the All Blacks want him to play in New Zealand according to the Daily Telegraph.

Despite being named Australia's under-20s player of the year, the 127 kilogram forward is still eligible to play for both countries.

Originally at the Brumbies in their development squad, Lomax is in the first year of a two-year deal with the Rebels.

"He's a strong scrummager and has well-developed core skills for his size," McGahan has said of Lomax.

His father John grew up in Wellington and played for the Canberra Raiders during their golden period in the 90s.
