Video: Joseph Parker's days fighting in New Zealand look officially numbered

Joseph Parker has said his WBO title defence against Hughie Fury in Auckland is likely to be his last fight in New Zealand.

Team Parker arrived back into the country from his training base in Las Vegas on Saturday morning ahead of the May 6 bout with Fury.

And Parker, who won the WBO title with a point's decision over Mexican Andy Ruiz Jr in December, said they'd have to concentrate on bigger markets after the fight.

"Probably is the last time I will be doing this, because after this fight we are looking at fighting in different countries and all around the world, so we have to establish ourselves in different areas," Parker said.

"I am going to make the most of this last opportunity to fight here in New Zealand."

Parker has only ever fought outside New Zealand four times, in Germany, the US and Samoa.

Back in December, the 24-year-old entered into a co-promotional deal with Top Rank's Bob Arum, meaning his appearances in New Zealand will become few and far between.

With Top Rank a rapidly growing player in the US and China, and Parker likely to be the beneficiary of mass exposure to those markets, New Zealand is set to lose out on one of its biggest homegrown boxing stars.

Meanwhile the Fury camp are yet to arrive in New Zealand, with their first media session set for Wednesday April 26.
