Video live updates: Canberra Raiders vs New Zealand Warriors - NRL

RAIDERS 20 - 8 WARRIORS

FULLTIME: The Raiders keep the Warriors scoreless in the second half to secure a 20-8 win. Disappointing second half by the Warriors and the Raiders deserved the win after defending their hearts out in the first and making the most of the Warriors mistakes in the second. The Warriors failed to do the basics in the second and that is what cost them. They couldn't buy a completed set in the second... Stephen Kearney will not be happy with that second half.

79mins: The Raiders cross the line, but the last pass is ruled forward.

78mins: Another mistake and the Raiders will look to put the knife in the Warriors once more.

76mins:  A mistake from Mannering and that is the game.

75mins: Raiders make a mistake and the Warriors have a chance to score. They need too.

74mins: PENALTY GOAL RAIDERS: It is a 12 point game with six minutes remaining in Canberra.

73mins: Aidan Sezer is down and it looks like the Raiders will win a penalty.

72mins: Raiders get a repeat set, but how? it shouldn't have been. But it looks like karma steps in and the Raiders drop the ball.

70mins: A poor end to the set. I thought the Raiders played at the ball and so did the Warriors, but the referees have different views.

68mins: The Warriors will probably need a miracle to come back from here, but they need some ball and they need to complete sets. They also need to do the basics.

65mins: TRY RAIDERS: Josh Hodgson crosses the line and the Raiders score their third of the match.

65mins: Another repeat set for the Radiers........

63mins: Another spiral bomb and this time Ken Maumalo catches the ball.... After two plays the Warriors make another mistake. This is really really poor by the Warriors, but to be fair it should have been a penalty. One of the referees's called it, but he was overruled.

62mins: The Warriors have a great chance to score and they throw the ball away. The Warriors need to be patient as they have had zero ball in the second half.

61mins: The Raiders make a  mistake after Aidan Sezer kicks the ball out on the full and the Warriors will have some rare second-half possession.

60mins: The conversion was missed so it is a four point game with 20 minutes to go.

58mins: TRY RAIDERS: Joseph Leilua scores his second of that match. The Raiders attack doesn't he right and the Warriors defence was sliding back and it was an easy try from Leilua. The Green Machine lead for the first time tonight.

57mins: Big mistake by the Warriors and Ken Maumalo drops the spiral bomb. Raiders to have another attacking scrum. They surely must score here.

56mins: The Warriors kick the ball into the heavens and I mean literally into the heavens, but Blake Ayshford knocks the ball forward.

54mins: Iosia Soliola drops the ball and the Warriors survive again. You could have called it for a strip, but as Soliola was attempting to offlead, the referee gives the call in favour of the away side.

53mins: The Warriors can't catch a break here after the Warriors are called for a kick on. Raiders have another attacking scrum. The Gree Machine sense blood.

52mins: Nathaniel Roache comes onto the field and he gives away an early penalty for a dangerous tackle. Bad way to celebrate your 21st birthday!

50mins: PENALTY GOAL RAIDERS: The Warriors were offside at the ruck and right in front, Jarrod Croker lands the penalty goal to tie things up!

48mins: The Raiders attack down the blindside on the last and the Warriors are forced to tap the ball dead. The Warriors will have another set.

47mins: The Raiders have finally upped the tempo in the second half and the Warriors are doing a good job holding them off, but how long can they last. They make 18 metres off the set and the Warrior are forced to kick inside their 20.

45mins: The Raiders make massive metres down the middle fo the field and the Warriors are on the backfoot again. The Green Machine are trying to stamp their mark on the game.... The Raider make a break and Joseph Leilua is in but no! Ryan Hoffman comes up with the big tackle and the Warriors survive once again.

44mins: The Raiders make a  mistake off their set and Blake Ayshford picks up the scraps and they survive another defensive set.

42mins: The Raiders complete their first second of the second half..... And the Warriors make another mistake. The Raiders have another attacking set.

41mins:  A poor start to the second half, as the Warriors make a  mistake off the first set.

40mins: The Raiders get the second half started at GIO Stadium. Can the Warriors finally turn all this attack into points? Or will the Raiders grind out a victory?  Stay tuned to find out!

HALFTIME: The Warriors lead 8-6 at the break. The away side dominated possession in the opening 40, but they can't cross the line.

38mins: Once again the red light comes up for the Warriors. Twice in two minutes, the Warriors have been denied. I thought it went backwards, but I'm not in the bunker.

38mins: The Warriors have the ball on the last, Johnson kicks towards Maumalo who taps the ball back to Kata and the bunker will have a look at this!

37mins: The try is checked by the Bunker and it is no try. That could go down as the try-saver of the season, especially if the Raiders win the match.

37mins: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck breaks the line and looks likely to score, but excellent last-ditch defence by Jarrod Croker who saves the try.

36mins: The Raiders are going to score.... No, they don't! Joesph Leilua drops the ball, and if he caught that, it would have been his second of the match. The Warriors survive that play.

35mins: Another amazing catch by Nick Cotric and the Raiders have great field position and they want points!

34mins: Nick Cotric makes a crucial catch for the green machine and the Raiders make great metres from the set. Now the Warriors go on the counter and they make quick metres. Up to the 40 after three tackles.

31mins: Kieran Foran with another great run. Then Simon Mannering breaks the line, and on the last Shaun Johnson kicks on the last and is taken out, but no penalty is called. Poor call by the referees on that one.

29mins: Issac Luke forces a mistake the Warriors have the ball again.... On the last, the Warriors run and Shaun Johnson nearly produces some absolute magic.

27mins: The Warriors go close again, but another one-on-one strip hands the Raiders possession. After two plays they win a penalty and they take it quickly. Similar field position from where they scored their first try.

26mins: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck just takes the catch from the restart and on the return, Joseph Leilua does his best WWE clothesline and the Warriors win a penalty.

25mins: Solid set by the Warriors following the penalty goal. They made some great yards down the left wing.  Foran kicks it high and Jack Wighton goes straight to ground.

23mins: PENALTY GOAL WARRIORS: The Warriors take the lead after Johnson lands the penalty goal from right in front.

22mins: The Warriors win a penalty and the Warriors will take the penalty goal.

21mins: Now the Warriors have an attacking chance after Blake Austin dropped the ball from the kickoff.

19mins: TRY RAIDERS: Joseph Leilua scores the Raiders first try of the match. The massive centre powers his way over the in the corner. Nothing the Warriors could do to defend that.

18mins: The Raiders fans are barking at the referee for a penalty and they finally win one, and now they will have a great attacking opportunity.

17mins: Another complete set by the Raiders and RTS makes another solid return.

15mins: Another solid set by the Raiders and now the Warriors are back on the attack.

14mins: Ligi Sao tries to push his way over the line and is pushed back infield and drops the ball when he hits the ground.

13mins: Kieran Foran kicks the ball on the last and Jack Wighton knocks the ball on trying to gather possession. Another set to the Warriors and the Raiders have to defend their line for the third straight set.

11mins: Great kick by Issac Luke ti force a repeat set. It looks liked the ball might go dead, but the Raiders are forced to play at it. Great way to make a play out of nothing.

9mins: Thompson heads off and Ligi Sao is on...... The Warriors will get a repeat set after Nick Cotric was tackled in goal.

9mins: Bodene Thompson is down with a leg injury. The referee stops the clock.; Looks like he might have twisted his leg in the tackle.

7mins: Solomone Kata makes a great run and Josh Hodgson strips the ball, and the Warriors win a penalty.

6mins: TRY WARRIORS: The try is given and the Warriors take the early lead through Ryan Hoffman.

5mins: Warriors enter the Raiders half for their first time in the match. Foran kicks on the last and Ryan Hoffman catches the ball and goes over for the four pointers, but the Bunker will take a look.

4mins: Great goalline defence by the Warriors. They force the Raiders back and eventually they have nowhere to go and are forced into touch.

3mins: Raiders make excellent metres of their second set. After the first play by the Warriors, Josh Hodgson strips the ball and the Warriors are under the pump early.

1mins:  Strong first set by the Raiders. Sezer kicks the ball on the last and Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck returns the ball to tart the Warriors first set.

Pre-match banter -  Outside criticism of Shaun Johnson is off the mark – Kearney and Foran

The Warriors' inert attacking efforts aren't the fault of halfback Shaun Johnson, insist coach Stephen Kearney and playmaker-to-be Kieran Foran.

Following an opening-round win over Newcastle, the Warriors have failed to score more than 12 points in any of their three subsequent losses.

They've had sufficient possession and field position to score more against Melbourne, Canterbury and St George Illawarra but have been stymied by a blunt attack and weak fifth-tackle plays.

High-profile No.7 Johnson has worn criticism for a lack of impact, with NSW State of Origin coach Laurie Daley believing Johnson needs a "reality check".

Daley suggested Kearney drop or bench Johnson for a week to stoke the competitive fires.

Kearney noted Johnson is a regular whipping boy when the Warriors don't play well but reckons criticism this season is unfair.

He says the 26-year-old Kiwis playmaker is fully motivated and letting nobody down with his commitment.

"I try not to pay too much attention to a lot of the outside sources in terms of opinions and critics. If I did that every week I'd be scrambled up," Kearney said.

"I'm really comfortable with how Shaun's going, I think he's trying really hard.

I've seen a real improvement from him so I'm happy."

Foran will link with Johnson in his Warriors debut against the Gold Coast Titans on Sunday if cleared of a hamstring injury.

He has been a keen observer of his long-time Test halves partner and believes critics need to ease up.

"I don't know why Shaun's come under fire to be honest," Foran said.

"I've watched the games closely enough and he's competing in every play. He's doing everything he can to get our team over the line.

"He's just got to keep doing what he's doing. We're not getting the two points at the moment but when things turn he'll be a major factor in it."

While doubt hangs over Foran's availability, Kearney cast some light over the fitness of two other first-choice veteran players recovering from knee injuries.

Winger Manu Vatuvei underwent minor surgery on Friday after suffering an aggravation against the Bulldogs. He is expected to be available in three weeks.

Kearney put the same time frame on prop Ben Matulino, who is running lightly.

Matulino underwent surgery in January but his recovery has been compromised by infection.
