Bangladesh better Blackcaps in Champions Trophy warm-up

Bangladesh have claimed their first ever away ODI victory over the Blackcaps by five wickets in the final one-day-international of the tri-series in Ireland.

Sent in to bat by the Tigers, it was a good start for New Zealand despite the early loss of Luke Ronchi, with Tom Latham continuing where he finished off against Ireland on Sunday with a fine 84 including 11 boundaries.

Sharing a 133-run second wicket stand with Neil Broom, Broom (63) and Latham fell in quick succession after both were undone by wily spinner Nassir Hossain.

Ross Taylor who plundered a very good 60 and Corey Anderson took the Blackcaps past 200. But Anderson holing out at deep square leg triggered a lower order collapse with Jimmy Neesham, Colin Munro, Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry all falling for a collective 30 runs.

This saw the Blackcaps struggle through to a score of 270 on a pitch and ground that should have seen 300, particularly from a position of strength of 156-1.

Continuing the recent trend of opening the bowling for the Blackcaps against Bangladesh, Jeetan Patel took the new ball and didn't squander it, removing Soumya Sarkar with his third ball.

Outside the relatively disciplined opening bowling duo of Patel and Matt Henry, it was an untidy performance by the Blackcaps bowlers, sharing in 19 wides.

Corey Anderson and Jimmy Neesham were particularly expensive for the New Zealanders with Anderson bowling five overs for 37 and Neesham just getting four overs in for 28.

Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman were the chief destroyers for Bangladesh, hitting 65 apiece while they received some good middle order support from Mushfiqur Rahim (45) and Mahmudullah (46).

The Blackcaps will continue their warm-up for the Champions Trophy against India at the Oval on Sunday night before Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on Tuesday.

They play Australia in the opening match of their Champions Trophy at the same ground on Friday 2 June.
