Charlie Ngatai suffering from concussion symptoms, will miss Crusaders clash

The Chiefs will go into their clash against the Crusaders without All Black midfielder Charlie Ngatai following the re-emergence of concussion symptoms.

According to Chiefs assistant coach, Ngatai was suffering a headache following training on Monday afternoon.

"Charlie developed a headache after training the other day and we're not sure why, but we're taking the precautionary approach so that's the reason he's not playing," Strawbridge said.

But they're unsure how it happened.

"We just don't know, we've checked footage but we couldn't see anything that happened at training that might have caused it.

"It is what it is, a post training headache and we want to look after him."

It's a disappointing setback for Ngatai with the Chiefs' carefully managing the 26-year-old's return to rugby.

Playing his first Super Rugby game in 12 months against the Reds on May 6, Ngatai had played a number of club games for University.

Ngatai's omission is one of five changes to the Chiefs side with coach Dave Rennie ringing the changes in the backline.

Aaron Cruden will start at 10 while Anton Lienert-Brown will slide into second five-eighth. Both Sam McNichol and Tim Nanai-Williams are elevated into the starting line-up.

Up front, Nathan Harris will start his first match since August 2016, coming in for Hika Elliot at hooker.
