Kiwi Ferns ready to steal the show with spotlight opportunity

While the Anzac Test between the Kiwis and Kangaroos may be the talk of the town in Canberra, the Kiwi Ferns trans-Tasman clash against the Jillaroos will be in the spotlight in New Zealand tonight.

The match will be broadcast in both Australia and New Zealand from 7.25pm [NZT], it's a very special moment for captain Sarina Fiso.

"We're looking forward to it because a lot of our family weren't able to travel and they are planning on coming to the World Cup, but this is just a bit too much for them."

The one-off Test in Canberra is the perfect chance for new coach Tony Benson to blood some fresh talent ahead of this year's Women's Rugby League World Cup in Australia.

"It's extremely important for us. It sort of gives us a gauge on where we are and where we need to be."

Fiso said the team is still hurting after their three series defeat to the current world champions at the NRL Auckland Nines earlier this year.

But with the proper 13-aside format back on agenda, there is no shortage of motivation within the squad that includes six debutants.

"I think anytime that you get the opportunity to wear the black jersey, that is enough in itself. The Kiwi Ferns is the pinnacle for Rugby League for women, so it's a great opportunity, it's an honour and I think we'll take that into the game. And with what we've learnt in the past couple of months, I think we're in great shape."

The Kiwi Ferns were presented their Test jerseys by the Kiwis last night and Fiso says it's one of the highlights of this tour.

"We see this all on TV, we see all of the NRL superstars and our Kiwis superstars on TV but tonight we will be sitting next to them."
