Live updates: Queensland vs New South Wales – 2017 State of Origin I

QUEENSLAND 4 - 28 NEW SOUTH WALES

FULLTIME: What a match that was. New South Wales win 28-4 in Brisbane. That first 40 minute was probably the best 40 you will ever see. Game two is in New South Wales on June 21. It is their biggest ever win in Brisbane. Game over! Origin one is over.

78mins: Justin O’Neill is heading off after hitting his head on the ground as we head into the final 100 seconds.

77mins: Thre minutes away from fulltime. The Blues kick on the last and the ball goes into touch.

75mins: Another try saver by the Blues. Corey Oates steps his way towards the line and Boyd Cordner comes up with the big play. They kick on the last and James Tedesco gathers the ball.

73mins: James Tedesco comes up with another great play at the back. I wonder if they can have co-man of the match because both him and Fifita deserve it.

James Maloney kicks inside the 30 and Dane Gagai returns the ball and he is tackled just short of halfway.

72mins: Time is off as Nate Myles is holding the shoulder, or is it the elbow. Looks like he was involved in a chicken wing tackle. But the referee says it will play on.

71mins: New South Wales attack down the right wing again and Josh Dugan throws the offload but Balke Ferguson spills the pill. Queensland scrum just inside their half.

70mins: Queensland makes a break down the left wing and Aidan Guerra is through and will score... Oh, wait he has dropped it! Josh Dugan who has struggled tonight knocks the ball out and prevents the try.

70mins: We are in the final 10 minutes in Brisbane.

69mins: Josh Dugan has the ball near the wing, and he looks to attack down the wing, but he is pushed into touch.

67mins: One thing I have noticed is the lack of go-forward by the Queensland props and as I am typing this, Nate Myles makes a mistake. Blues scrum 40 out from the Queensland line.

66mins: Queensland run on the last again but the ball goes to ground and New South Wales has the ball inside Queensland territory.

64mins: Matt Gillett is put into a hole on the fourth and he is over.... No, he is not. James Tedesco makes the try saving tackle. What a play!

On the last, the Maroons runs it. they go left to right and it gets to Gagai to try to fly over the line, but excellent cover defence by Tedesco again prevents the try.

62mins: Queensland wins a much-needed penalty inside the Blues half and they decide to run it.

61mins: James Maloney misses his first conversion of the night.

60mins: TRY NEW SOUTH WALES: The Hayne Plane has scored in Brisbane. Simple overlap down the short side and James Maloney finds Wade Graham who puts Hayne into a hole and he runs over and then into the stand of Blues fans. That is his 10th Origin try.

59mins: Michell Pearce back out on the bench but won't be back tonight. The Blues run on the last down he left wing.

58mins: Andrew Fifita is off for a well-deserved break. The Blues kick high on the last and Dane again makes another great catch. Two plays into the set Corey Oates is smashed by Boyd Cordner.

56mins: Another conversion to Maloney 24-4 now.

55mins: TRY NEW SOUTH WALES: The ball is dropped on the next play and Andrew Fifita picks up the ball and powers over the line to claim a well-earned try. He will surely get man of the match now.

54mins: 55 metres made by the Blues on that set and Dane Gagai makes the catch.

53mins: James Maloney makes the conversion and it is 18-4 to New South Wales.

52mins: TRY NEW SOUTH WALES: A well deserved to try to James Tedesco. He picks the ball up from dummy half and steps through. He is held by three players but somehow gets the ball down.

51mins: Short dropout and the Blues gather the ball. 10 metres from the line.

50mins: Pearce is down and many concerned faces around the ground. His neck is being supported and eventually, ghe gets up and is going off. Big loss for the Blues, but luckily they have Jack Bird on the bench who will likely go into the halves.

50mins: A fresh set of six for New South Wales and in back play Mitchell Pearce is down and looks out. The Blues kick early and the ball is forced dead. Pearce was smashed by Will Chambers who floors the Roosters halfback.

48mins: Another penalty to the Blues as Josh McGuire dumps David Klemmer on his head. McGuire getting payback for the dangerous tackle which was not called.

47mins: A high tackled by the Blues and Matt Gillett has blood coming from the mouth, but it not called. They have an attacking kick, but they run it eventually they get to the kick  and James Tedesco is tackled early by Gillett

46mins: Another quiet set by Queensland. But the Blues are looking deadly. Fifita gets another offload in as they attack down he left wing. Next, play the attack down the right side, but it leads to a mistake. Queensland ball.

44mins: More great running by the Blues who are tackled ion the last 25 from the line. Dane Gagai jumps for the ball and so does Jarryd Hayne, but the former NFL player just gets a little touch and the ball goes forward.

43mins: James Tedesco makes half a break and offloads to Maloney who goes for a run. Last tackle 10 metres from the line, Maloney stabs a kick in and Darius Boyd just wins the race to the ball.

41mins: David Klemmer takes the first hit up of the second half. Brett Morris follows up then Jake Trbojevic goes for a run.... They make 38 metres on the last and James Maloney kicks on the last down to Darius Boyd who has been quiet so far.

40mins: The second half is underway in Queensland. The Blues have first use of the ball and an eight-point lead. Can they hold on? In 40 minutes, we will have an answer.

HALFTIME: 12-4 at the break to New Soth Wales. What an incredible half. Only one error in the half, but that late try could be crucial.

Andrew Fifita playing the best game I have ever seen him play while Josh Jackson continues to impress for the Blues. Cooper Cronk and the Queensland back three have been great.

40mins: TRY NEW SOUTH WALES: Running on the last works for the Blues. The go down the left wing and Wade Graham throws the inside ball to James Tedesco who makes the break and he finds Mitchell Pearce who dives over under the sticks. That try will be crucial for the overall outcome of the game.

39mins: Another break by Andrew Fifita who get the Blues inside Queensland territory. 35 metres out on the last tackle ad the Blues ruin it

38mins: Anthony Milford dances around the Blues defence down the middle and gets the home team down tp the 30 on the last.

36mins: Cameron Smith misses the conversion as it goes wide of the left-hand post.

35mins: TRY QUEENSLAND: Corey Oates catches the ball from the crossfield kick and scores the first try of the game for the home team. What a perfect kick by Cronk as Oates flys through the air to catch the ball.

34mins: Dane Gagai makes a break down the wing on the fourth. On the last, Queensland kick towards the left wing on the last and....

33mins: Brett Morris is tackled metres from the line after a great run by Jarryd Hayne. On the last, James Tedesco attacks down the middle and goes over the line,  but drops the ball.

32mins: Another safe catch by Corey Oates. Queensland kicks 35 from the line and Cooper Cronk is chasing but James Tedesco wins the race and breaks the tackle.

30mins: Dane Gagai gets the ball on the last and is tackled two metres from the line. Queensland will try muscle up to try to keep the Blues inside their 20.

29mins: Wade Graham tackled two metres from the line, but another poor fifth tackle option and the ball goes straight into the hands of Dane Gagai who sprints away, but he had to tap the ball at the 20.

28mins: Jake Trbojevic is dumped on the ground. Next play James Tedesco makes half a break, but it comes to nothing.

The Blues kick towards Corey Oates who makes the catch. Three plays a later, a poor pass by Queensland means they are pinned inside their 10 and are forced to kick. New South Wales start their set 25 from the line.

26mins: Cooper Cronk drills the ball into touch another rest for the players who honestly look shattered. New South Wales scrum 10 metres from their goal line. Neither side is yet to make an error so far. The first one could be key to how the match plays out.

25mins: Mitchell Pearce with another quality run and James Maloney kicks on the last, they are now targeting Dane Gagai but like Oates, his hands safely catch the ball.

23mins: Dane Gagai returns the ball for Queensland and he looks puffed like most of the players on the park.

22mins: Another massive run by Andrew Fifita. The Blues kick on the last but it straight to the hands of Dane Gagai. Andrew Fifita is off and looks worse for wear and also Jacob Lillyman is on for Queensland.

21mins: Cameron Smith kicks the ball into touch and it is the first break of the match. I feel tired just watching it. But these updates must keep going. A high quality opening 20 minutes by both teams. Very few chances for both teams so far, but the Blues lead 6-0.

20mins: Another kick to the wing of Corey Oates as Sam Thaiday is on for the first time in the match.

19mins: Queensland runs the ball on the last and Justin O’Neill puts a kick in and he appears to be tackled without the ball but the referees allow play to continue. David Klemmer now on the field.

18mins: The Blues continue to target Corey Oates but he has safe hands again and the home team go straight back on the attack with a number of strong runs

17mins: New South Wales now muscling up on defence, but a great run by Josh McGuire makes that Queensland set respectable. James Tedesco runs the ball back and the Blues start the set 25 metres from their goal line.

16mins: What a start to this game, it is physical and error free thus far. New South Wales in possession right now inside the Queensland half.

15mins: Another break by the Blues, this time by Brett Morris who comes up holding his knee. Ont he last tackle 15 metres from the line, Pearce kicks towards the left wing and the ball is taped back and now they attack down the right wing, but it comes to nothing and Dylan Napa runs straight at Aaron Woods.

13mins: Corey Oates makes a mistake by the letting the ball bounce, but once he gets tot he ball he breaks the tackle and gets tackled on the 20-metre line. Two plays later Cooper Cronk puts Matt Gillett in a hole... Fifth tackle the run on the last and Corey Oates charges to the line but falls short.

11mins: Boyd Cordner makes a good run on the third and it is followed up by an excellent run by James Tedesco on the fourth. The Blues five out from the line on the last, but Mitchell Pearce puts in a poor kick and Queensland survive.

10mins: Now a penalty to New South Wales for holding. The away side will start the set just inside their half as we go over 10 minutes played.

9mins: Not much ground made by New South Wales following the try who have to kick the ball inside their 40. Now Queensland charges up the field.

7mins: Easy conversion for Maloney who lands it with ease.

6mins: TRY NEW SOUTH WALES: James Maloney has the first try of the match! Mitchell Pearce throws an inside ball to Andrew Fifita who makes ground and he throws a ball inside to Maloney who steps his way over the line and under the black dot. A try out of nothing for the visitors.

5mins: Anthony Milford nearly makes a break with his first touch,=. next play Cooper Cronk kicks the ball towards the wing of Corey Oates who makes a big dive save the ball which is going dead, but he gets a hand to the ball but drops it trying to put it down. 20-metre restart to New South Wales.

4mins: Another solid defensive set by Queensland who win the first penalty of the match after one tackle after returning the ball. They will start the set just inside New South Wales territory.

3mins: The Queensland Roar starts as Cooper Cronk sends the ball into the heavens and James Tedesco makes a safe catch at the back.

2mins: 30 metres made by New South Wales in their first set. Queensland muscled up on the first three tackles. Great defensive set by the home team.

1mins: Two ferocious hit-ups to start the match bu Queensland. They make 40 metres off their first set and Cooper Cronk kicks the ball to James Tedesco who is smashed.

KICKOFF: We are underway in Queensland. The Maroons will have first use of the ball.

10:13 pm: No idea who just sang the anthem, but whoever it was, he is unquestionably an excellent singer!

10:12 pm: Now it is time for the Australian national anthem before a moment of silence for an Australian police officer who lost his life while on duty.

10:11 pm: Cameron Smith leads Queensland out to a massive roar.

10:10 pm: New South Wales are the first team out on the field.

Pre-match banter - We let Queensland get inside our heads Aaron Woods

NSW prop Aaron Woods admits the Blues have allowed Queensland to get inside their heads during the Maroons' reign of dominance.

The Blues go into Wednesday's State of Origin opener at Suncorp Stadium with their best opportunity in years to put the Maroons to the sword, with Kevin Walters' side seriously depleted by key outs.

Injuries to Johnathan Thurston, Greg Inglis and Matt Scott and the retirement of Corey Parker have left them minus 107 games of Origin experience.

However, Woods says the Blues' squad hasn't discussed the Maroons or their plans ahead of game one because they didn't want to trip themselves up mentally.

The Wests Tigers captain says during Queensland's run of 10 wins over the past 11 years, NSW's efforts to concentrate on shutting down the Maroons' contingent of superstars had led to them getting "nervous".

"We haven't spoken too much about Queensland," he said in camp in Kingscliff on Sunday.

"The biggest job is to worry about ourselves.

"Every time we do talk about Queensland, we tend to get a little bit nervous about what they're throwing at us because they're such a great side.

"We've just got to know our roles and just back ourselves and play the footy we've been training for."

There's swelling confidence within the Blues camp that their time has arrived and Woods reckons they're better prepared than ever to take control of the big moments.

He points to the big-game form of Mitchell Pearce, James Maloney's history of winning premierships at two clubs and the return of game-breaker Jarryd Hayne after a two-year hiatus.

"When the big moments come, we just need to take the right opportunities," Woods said.

"The last couple of series we've been beaten in game one just.

"We should have scored a try last year, the year before we missed a field goal.

"Game one is always the biggest game. Once you get the win there, history shows you're not definitely going to win but you're going to go a long way to winning the series."
