Charismatic manager Sam Allardyce has resigned as Crystal Manager just days after guiding them to Premier League survival.

Allardyce joined the club back in December on a two-and-a-half year deal, replacing club favourite Alan Pardew who was sacked after a series of poor results.

The 61-year-old was charged with ensuring the club would stay in the top flight, something he achieved despite ending the season with a 2-0 away loss to Manchester United.

Crystal Palace is the 11th club Allardyce has managed but he doesn't wish to continue his managerial career.

"I have no ambitions to take another job," Allardyce said in a statement.

"I want to be able to savour life while I am still relatively young, and when I am still relatively healthy enough to do all the things I want to do, like travel, spend more time with my family and grandchildren without the huge pressure that comes with being a football manager.

"This is the right time for me. I simply want to be able to enjoy all the things you cannot really enjoy with the 24/7 demands of managing any football club, let alone one in the Premier League."

It's been an eventful season for Allardyce who had a one-game tenure as England boss before it was cut short after a shady undercover sting by a UK newspaper.
