The Warriors are reportedly attempting to lure half James Maloney back to Auckland.

The Cronulla Sharks star has a handful of teams chasing his services, with the Warriors the latest to join the race for his signature, according to Australia's Channel Nine.

Maloney is still under contract with the Sharks for next season but is said to be dissatisfied with its terms, with much richer offers starting to flow in from rival clubs.

The 30-year-old first burst on to the NRL scene as a member of the Warriors back in 2010, a key member of a side which marched all the way to the NRL Grand Final before falling to the Manly Sea Eagles.

The Warriors would look to Maloney to fill the void set to be left by the departing Kieran Foran, who will make his way back to Sydney to play for the Bulldogs in 2018.

Kearney didn't say the club were particularly chasing Maloney but said he'd be great for the club.

"Those sorts of players [like Maloney] oes a great deal for the team and for the club," Kearney said.

"It's very similar to what Kieran adds I guess, they're experienced, they've won championships, they know what it's all about."

The New South Wales and Australia representative guided the Sharks to its first NRL premiership win in 49 years in 2016, awarded Dally M five-eighth of the year for his efforts.

The Auckland-based franchise would be competing with a number of sides, with South Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle all allegedly in the hunt.
