Former Kiwis halfback Gary Freeman believes Warriors halves Kieran Foran and Shaun Johnson need to go back to having fun if the Warriors are to have a successful season.

The Warriors have only one win in their last five matches and many fans are losing patience following two poor losses to the Penrith Panthers and St George Illawarra Dragons.

Speaking to Jim Kayes and Jeff Wilson on RadioLIVE's Sunday Sport, Freeman said it looks like Foran and Johnson are not enjoying their footy right now.

"I absolutely love watching Kieran Foran and Shaun Johnson play, but it looks like they are not enjoying themselves," said the 54-year old Freeman.

"All the pressure from the Test match two weeks back has built up and it has taken away from their game.

"They need to back to having enjoyment and having fun."

"The big thing about playing sport [is] if you stop having fun, even at the professional level, it shows on the field."

One thing the Warriors have struggled with this season is their last tackle options and Freeman, a former halfback himself, told RadioLIVE Shaun Johnson needs to take more control to guide the team.

"There were a couple of kicks that were going through the motions at training.

"The forwards are dominating and going forward but when they went to kick I found that young Shaun decided to kick when he should have passed and when he passed he should have kicked it.

"The pubic expect so much. Shaun has the seven on his back and he has to stand up and lead the boys around the park

"He needs to say I want the forwards to do this and then command for the ball and I'm going to put us over the line."

Freeman played over 150 games during his successful career and said the players of today's game need to try get goals for every match, and is something the players at the Warriors really need to do.

"This is the toughest competition mentally and physically.

"You have to set yourself some goals and that is something they need to address at the Warriors.

"Game plans are great, but when they are not working you need players who are willing to go outside the circle and win you a game of football."

The Warriors will look to snap their two-game losing streak, when they host the Brisbane Broncos on Saturday night at Mount Smart Stadium.
