America's Cup 2017: Team New Zealand CEO Grant Dalton fires brutal verbal shot at Jimmy Spithill

Team New Zealand CEO Grant Dalton has finally achieved his dream in winning the America's Cup and he's happy to rub it in the face of his tormentor.

Four years ago Dalton was on the receiving end of a few verbal jabs from Oracle skipper Jimmy Spithill during the American's comeback from 8-1 down.

The 59-year-old kept control of the team after the horrific result in San Francisco despite calls for him to step down, and the result now speaks for itself.

Dalton told NZME that Spithill can reap what he has sowed.

"Frankly I couldn't care less about Spithill to tell you the truth," Dalton said.

"He was quite keen to get me ousted and probably has a good reason now. They did their best. The biggest software company in the world just got beaten by little old New Zealand software.

The sailing veteran didn't stop firing back at the American syndicate adding, "It's a privilege to hold the America's Cup - it's not a right.

"It was embodied in the way Team New Zealand was under Sir Peter Blake. If you're good enough to take it from us then you will, and we'll try very hard to be good enough to keep it.

"We won't turn it [the rules] to make sure you can't."
