Michael Collins signs one-year contract extension with the Blues

The Blues have re-signed fullback Michael Collins for next season, the 24-year-old confirmed to Newshub on Monday.

Collins came north from Otago last year after getting a Super Rugby opportunity with the Blues, signing a contract for just one season.

However, he's been a standout player for the Blues this season, making the fullback role his own and pushing Melani Nanai out of the starting side.

Despite shining for the Blues this season, Collins hasn't yet set his sights on the top echelon of New Zealand Rugby.

"To be honest, I'm just happy here doing my job and whatever comes, comes," Collins said.

"I can't really go out there and say [I want to be an All Black next], I just need to keep doing my part and if it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't."

His reliability and his defensive capabilities at the back has been a neat fit for the Blues, despite the side narrowly missing the playoffs.
