The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to trade Kyrie Irving to Eastern Conference rivals, the Boston Celtics.

The deal will see Irving head to Boston in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and Brooklyn’s 2018 first round pick.

Irving requested a trade last month as he reportedly wanted to play somewhere where he could lead the offence, and not play alongside LeBron James.

The 25-year old averaged 25.2 points, 5.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game last season, while Thomas is coming off his best season with the Celtics, averaging 28.9 points and 5.9 assists.

Irving was the No. 1 pick in the 2011 Draft. Thomas was picked 60th.

Both sides face off in the opening match of the season on October 18 (NZT).
