Super Rugby champion Crusaders make triumphant return at parade through Christchurch

Hundreds of loyal Crusaders fans have lined the streets of Christchurch to welcome their victorious heroes home on Tuesday.

Just hours removed from their return from South Africa where the side battled their way to their 8th Super Rugby title against the Lions on Sunday morning (NZT), the players showed little signs of weariness as they snapped selfies and shook hands with supporters young and old.

Coach Scott Robertson was flattered by the out-pouring from the local red-and-black faithful.

"It's a solid turn-out at short notice, and it's great that we can connect with our people, let the young fullas see their heroes," Robertson told Newshub.

"We're not in a good state after a long trip back."

With both the provincial competition and the Rugby Championship imminent, this would be one of the final chances the squad would have to enjoy one another's company before either scattering to their respective provincial teams across the country, or heading into All Blacks camp.

"It's a nice chance for us to finish off a special year," added Robertson.

The excitement was all a little too much for one young fan after snapping a picture alongside captain Sam Whitelock.

"It's so cool. Oh my gosh, I'm freaking out," he exclaimed.
