Rugby Championship 2017: As it happened - Wallabies vs All Blacks

WALLABIES 34 - 54 ALL BLACKS

FULLTIME: A remarkable game of footy which was a game of two halves. A convincing win in the end for the All Blacks but it was far from perfect whose bench did make an impact.

Both sides will play in Dunedin next weekend.

79mins: The Wallabies attack and Ardie Savea turns the ball over and boots it away.

78mins: This has been a poor second half by the All Blacks. Steve Hansen surely won't be happy.

77mins: The All Blacks get the ball out and it is very messy and the Wallabies turn the ball over.

76mins: They say that both Barrett and Foley touched the ball at the exact same time so it is a scrum to the All Blacks.

60mins: The Wallabies are hot on the attack after turning the ball over. But they drop the ball and after a try-fest, mistakes are starting to creep into the match.

58mins: Then the Wallabies make a mistake and now the All Blacks have a scrum.

57mins: The All Blacks get the ball from the restart and they are inside the 22. But a small knock on by Tj Perenara lets the Aussies off the hook.

56mins: The conversion is successful. But the All Blacks still lead by 34 points.

The All Blacks have won their last five games against the Wallabies, the last time they won more was a 10-game streak from 2008 to 2010.

New Zealand posted a 42-8 win against Australia when they last met at ANZ Stadium, the biggest win in the history of the fixture at that venue (16 games).

The Wallabies have scored no more than a penalty goal in the opening half of each of their last three games at ANZ Stadium, trailing at halftime in each match, though they’ve gone on to earn a win and a draw in that period (L1).

The All Blacks have lost only one of their last seven games within Australia (W4, D2), and will be looking to win consecutive fixtures on Australian soil for the first time since winning four on the trot from 2008 to 2010.

Ben Smith has scored 16 tries from 23 fixture at The Rugby Championship, the equal third most of any player in the history of the competition while only one All Black (Richie McCaw, 17) has scored more.

Beauden Barrett high-scored with a haul of 81 points in the 2016 iteration of The Rugby Championship, 28 more than next-best Bernard Foley and Nicolas Sanchez.

Pre-match banter -  Kieran Read is confident All Blacks will be ready for a hungry Wallabies outfit

All Blacks captain Kieran Read has stressed the importance of the Bledisloe Cup ahead of Saturday night's clash against Australia in Sydney.

The All Blacks have held the Cup since 2003 and the Wallabies are desperate to win it back.

Read is expecting a determined Wallabies side to front at ANZ Stadium but knows his side be motived to win the first of three Bledisloe Cup Test matches.

"For us, it is an important cup," said Read.

"As All Blacks, we don't take it for granted. None of us has been a part of a team that has lost it.

"We all know the history of the cup. It is very special to us as All Blacks and we know how hungry the Wallabies will be.

"It doesn't take much to motivate the guys, outside the World Cup it is our most special cup which we cherish and we want to do well in it."

The All Blacks are coming off an unexpected drawn series against the British and Irish Lions which left everybody speechless and our willingness I guess to where our strengths are which is to have an attacking mind set.

Read knows some of the players might be lacking confidence after the series, and he knows the team has to be better if they are to win.

"We have to have our minds on the job.

"If they are not there tomorrow we will certainly get found out. Things have been spoken about but we have come here with one job in mind and that is out on the footy field.

"We need to be better than what we were a month ago. That is in our performance and in a bit of attitude from the boys.

"We can't wait to get out there as it is a highly anticipated clash. Expect some pretty big fireworks."

Victory in Sydney looms as non-negotiable for the Wallabies, who travel to Dunedin next week for game two of the series having last won in New Zealand in 2001.
