Team New Zealand boss Grant Dalton has survived a fall from his motorbike at terrifying speeds at the Isle of Man.

Racing one of his two motorbikes at the famed track, Dalton failed to take a corner properly and was thrown from his vehicle while competing in the small island's annual motorcycle festival.

A motorsport enthusiast, Dalton estimated his speed at somewhere between 160-177km/h when he took the spill.

"I'd just cranked into a corner up at a place called The Verandah and the bike seized and just fired me off the road," Dalton told Stuff.

"But I wasn't hurt at all. I just slid for a decent distance and got up again. The bike was alongside me and we ended up in the same spot.

"It's not a big deal, it's all part of it ... it just goes with the turf."

The Kiwi is no stranger to the infamously perilous track having raced there on three previous occasions.

Between 1907 and 2017 the notorious circuit has seen more than 250 riders die during official practices, Dalton clearly fortunate to escape with nothing but a damaged bike.

He described it as looking "a bit second-hand" afterwards but confirmed it was already in for repairs, the America's Cup winner simply took to his second bike to complete qualifying.

Dalton ultimately got the result he was looking for, earning himself a spot in the finals in both classes entered.
