UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones tests positive for banned substance

UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones has failed a drugs test in relation to his UFC 214 title win over Daniel Cormier.

Jones won the fight by third-round knockout in one of the most anticipated match-ups In UFC history.

The 30-year-old tested positive for a banned substance in an in-competition USADA test in relation to his fight with Cormier on July 29 and has been provisionally suspended.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the news to ESPN although he said Jones hasn't formally been stripped of the title, it is likely Cormier will regain the belt.

Jones tested positive for turinabol, which carries a two-year suspension from USADA.

The American also tested positive prior to what would have been a bout with Cormier at UFC 200 in July 2016.

Jones was pulled from the fight and provisionally suspended three days prior to that event. He was suspended and served a one-year ban by USADA for testing positive for two banned substances, clomiphene and letrozol.
