Pre-match banter: All Whites focused on 'finishing the job' in second leg against the Solomon Islands

The All Whites maintain they're only interested in 'finishing the job' against the Solomon Islands in the second leg of their football World Cup qualifier.

The New Zealanders have all but wrapped up the tie after last night's 6-1 romp in Auckland, and coach Antony Hudson is considering resting at least his talismanic captain Chris Wood after his hat-trick heroics.

Goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic insists it doesn't matter who fronts in the second match - all that matters is making it two from two on Tuesday in Honiara.

"It was obviously a good win yesterday and we have given ourselves a good buffer but we all know how hard it is going to Honiara," said Marinovic.

"You don't want to go there and just scrape through, you want to set another example I guess and come away with a good win.

"You always want fresh legs on the park and the gaffers probably going to give those boys a run who didn't play the other night."

One player who won't likely feature in Tuesday's match is Michael McGlinchey, who was given a yellow card late in the match for a dangerous tackle on Solomon Islands defender Joses Nawo.

The incident happened minutes after the 30-year-old scored a goal from a well-struck free kick just outside the box.

McGlinchey was substituted immediately after the tackle and admitted that he was lucky not to have been given a straight red card.

He said that he had a 'rush of blood' after scoring the goal.

"He'd taken a free kick just before, Woodsy, and I says to him, 'I think this is more my range', a bit closer in, and he says, 'nah, I'm on a hat-trick, I'm having it'. I says, 'come on, look just let me have it', and he went 'OK', and I put it in the top bin.

"I knew I was under pressure, because he was like 'I'm on a hat-trick' and standing over the ball, and I says I can get it up and over the wall, so to do it, when he came over, I says 'look, I told you'.

"I apologised to the player, I think I just had a rush of blood, I'd just scored the goal and I dived in there. It was a shocking tackle, and I was lucky probably to stay on the pitch."

The All Whites will travel to the Solomon Islands early on Monday morning.
