An early puncture put an end to Hamish Bond's hopes at his first tilt at the road cycling world championships in Norway.

Dutchman Tom Dumoulin blitzed the field in the time trial event to win, while Tour de France champ Chris Froome was third.

Bond finished 39th on the tough time trial course and the early setback halted his charge.

The double Olympic rowing champion was New Zealand's only representative after George Bennett pulled out last week as he struggles to recover from injury.
