Joseph Parker and Hughie Fury square off at Old Trafford ahead of world heavyweight title clash

After the bizarre events of Tuesday, today’s final pre-fight press conference in Manchester was always going to be a little tame, in fact, at times it was positively chummy.

After shouting insults at each other in London David Higgins and Peter Fury suddenly seemed like best mates.

Higgins revealed he'd patched things up the next day by making a slightly sheepish phone call to Fury to apologise "We cleared the air, he said no hard feelings which was nice to hear considering there was a bit of threatening going around on social media".

The flurry of publicity the confrontation generated for the fight was probably just as helpful in getting Fury into the spirit of conciliation.

"He can’t offend me for some reason, because I do like him. [Higgins] just makes me laugh," joked Fury.

"It wouldn’t be a fair fight anyway would it?"

The pair did gang up on influential English promoter Eddie Hearn, Fury including Hearn amongst the "devious bastards" of boxing.

Higgins also fired a few pot shots at Hearn, and brushed off suggestions it was a bad idea to needle the manager of current heavyweight golden boy Anthony Joshua.

"You don’t make lucrative fights by sucking up to the opposition and pandering to Eddie just because he’s got lots of money," teased Higgins.

Even the notoriously volatile Tyson Fury wasn’t in the mood to cause trouble. Making his first appearance of fight week the former Heavyweight Champion had a brief and friendly chat to Joseph Parker before sedately observing proceedings.

There was genuine intensity as the fighters eye-balled each other in an extended staredown, and it seemed both boxers were reading plenty into their opponents' body language.

Parker noted that Fury took a "big gulp", a sure sign of worry according to the WBO champ.

"I can see fear in his eyes, no fear in my eyes. I’m ready," said the South Aucklander.

With just tomorrow’s weigh in to get through before fight night, it seems both Parker and Fury are looking forward to letting their fists finally do the talking.
