Waiheke United making noise on their way to Northern Region division one

If you thought the British and Irish Lions supporters were loud and proud, you haven't heard anything yet.

On a small island in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf, Waiheke United is bringing a uniquely South American flavour to its football club.

Some of the players for Waiheke hail from South America and have attracted a number of fans from their homeland.

The club has a dedicated fan base, who are known as 'La Banda'. They all carry flags and play drums to cheer the team on.

They even featured on ESPN Argentina who sent a film crew to the island - and that helped attract fans.

Waiheke United will play in Auckland's top Northern League next year, after securing their sixth successive promotion.
