Brendon Hartley solid in final Formula 1 practice ahead of qualifying

Kiwi driver Brendon Hartley's gearing up for qualifying at Formula 1's US Grand Prix in Texas on Sunday morning (NZ time).

The 27-year-old was 15th fastest in the final practice session this morning, his Toro Rosso car just over two seconds slower than championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who once again finished top with a time of 1m, 34.478s.

Hartley's teammate Daniil Kvyat suffered mechanical issues during the session and spent most of his time in the garage as mechanics tried to fix his car.

The Kiwi will return to the track later today for qualifying, but regardless of where he finishes, he will be starting from the back of the grid after his car after Toro Ross picked up a penalty after they opted to change his car's power unit ahead of the Grand Prix.

The race is on Monday morning (NZ time).
