"I am excited to return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge," Woods said.

"Albany is the perfect setting and it will be great to join this outstanding field.

"I would also like to thank the fans for their unwavering support during my injury."

The 18-strong field includes fellow Americans Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Matt Kuchar as well as other notables including Australian Jason Day and Justin Rose from England.

Woods hasn't won a PGA event since the 2013 Bridgestone Invitational .. his 79th tour title.
