Electric All Black backs Beauden Barrett and Rieko Ioane have been nominated for World Rugby's player of the year award.

The pair join England duo Owen Farrell and Maro Itoje and Australia's Israel Folau on the shortlist for the award, which will be announced at World Rugby's annual awards dinner in Monaco on November 26.

New Zealand duo Kelly Brazier and Portia Woodman have also been nominated for World Rugby's women's player of the year, along with England's Lydia Thompson and France pair Romane Menager and Safi N'Diaye.

Both shortlists were selected by a new World Rugby Awards panel which comprises Richie McCaw, John Smit, George Gregan, Maggie Alphonsi, Clive Woodward, Brian O'Driscoll, Fabien Galthie and Agustin Pichot.

In a new step in the selection process, fans, international captains, coaches and media will have their say before the panel decides the winners.
