Deontay Wilder has knocked out Bermane Stiverne in the first round to retain his WBC world heavyweight boxing title at the Barclays centre on Sunday (NZ time).

It was the second time the two fighters have squared off. The first saw Wilder capture the WBC title from Stiverne with a 12-round unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Stiverne was the only man to last the distance with Wilder, but this time he couldn't last one round as he was knocked to the ground three times in the first and only round.

After the fight, Wilder, 32, called out IFB and WBA champion Anthony Joshua.

"I've been waiting on that fight for a long time now," said Wilder.

"I declare war upon you. Do you accept my challenge? ... I've been waiting for a long time. I know I'm the champion. I know I'm the best. Are you up for the test?"

Wilder is now undefeated in 39 fights with 38 knockouts.
