Peru vs NZ: Jacinda Ardern willing to bet on the All Whites

Jacinda Ardern says she tried to get the President of Peru to make a bet on the outcome of Saturday's All Whites vs Peru match.

But while Pedro Kuczynski was keeping tabs on the game, he wasn't willing to put money on it.

The All Whites, ranked 122nd in the world, held Peru - ranked 10th - to a 0-0 draw in Wellington on Saturday afternoon.

Ms Ardern and Mr Kuczynski were following the match from the APEC summit in Vietnam.

"I can tell you I made an approach to the President and tried to get him to enter a wager with me," the New Zealand Prime Minister told media overnight.

"He was reluctant, and I did ask him several times. He seemed to be getting updates on the match score. As he left today I got the final update, and there was a bit of a wink and a nudge."

But no wager.

"He wouldn't take one with me, I was bitterly disappointed. I said we didn't have to make it money, but he still wasn't taking the bait."

But if she wasn't willing to put her money where her mouth is, what was Ms Ardern thinking about giving away?

"I actually hadn't worked out what I would offer up."

The All Whites and Peru face off again  at the Estadio Nacional in Lima on Thursday.
