Kiwis coach David Kidwell is unsure what his future holds coaching the national side following New Zealand's humiliating early exit at the Rugby League World Cup.

The Kiwis were ousted from the tournament after a 4-2 quarter-final defeat at the hands of Fiji on Saturday night.

Addressing the media on Sunday, an emotional Kidwell said he will take a couple of weeks to consider his future, with his current contract due to end in January.

"Look, I'm very passionate about this jersey, a lot of hard work has gone in to create this environment from everyone," a teary Kidwell admitted.

"I didn't get a lot of sleep last night.

"I know I've created something here at the start, it's whether I want to continue - or the people will let me continue - into seeing the fruits of the start of this.

"At the end of the day, I'll do what's best for the jersey."

In the 10 games under Kidwell since he took over September last year, the Kiwis have won three, drawn one and lost six.
