Auckland have announced the signing of Alama Ieremia as their new head coach for the next three years.

The former All Blacks centre joins the province after a four-year stint as both an assistant and head coach of the Samoan national team.

He's also spent time within the Wellington set-up as an assistant at the Hurricanes and the Lions.

The 47-year-old say his primary focus will be on changing the team culture and fostering the wealth of talent the region boasts at age-group level.

"I’ll be looking at how to bring our Under-19 success through and mix that with the Super Rugby talent that we have," Ieremia said in a statement.

"There’s a lot of depth, and it’s exciting coming into an environment where you can put that together.

“Auckland Rugby is steeped in history. The size of the union, the challenges of getting the best out of our players – these are some of the things that attracted me to the job and I’m really excited about it."
