Arsenal moved back into the Premier League's top four on Saturday as Crystal Palace climbed out of the relegation places.

Mesut Ozil scored the only goal as Arsenal beat Newcastle to jump up to fourth place while Palace are now 14th following their 3-0 win at 10-man Leicester.

Arsenal ended a three-match winless run thanks to a brilliant strike from Ozil.

It came in the 23rd minute when Alexis Sanchez's blocked shot fell to the German, who powered a left-footed volley past Rob Elliot.

"Overall we deserved to win - we had plenty of chances," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told the BBC.

"Overall, I feel we dominated."

The loss drops Newcastle, who are winless in nine, into the relegation zone.

They replace Palace, whose first away win of the season vaulted them up the table.

Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha and Bakary Sako scored as the Eagles made it seven straight unbeaten.

"The team is buzzing, we played so well today and we took our chances," Zaha told Sky Sports.

"It was only a matter of time before we put the performances together and climbed up the table."

Leicester's Wilfred Ndidi was sent off in the second half after picking up his second yellow card.

Burnley were held to a 0-0 draw at Brighton but it was enough to lift the Clarets into fifth.

Brighton's Glenn Murray missed a penalty and Burnley's James Tarkowski had a header cleared off the line.

"It's a good point," Tarkowski said. "It was a difficult first half for us, but we dominated the second-half I think. We had plenty of good chances."

Chelsea beat Southampton 1-0 for their eighth win in 10 league games.

Marcos Alonso's long-distance free-kick was the difference as the Blues pulled level on points with second-place Manchester United, who play on Sunday.

Both teams had a man dismissed as Huddersfield won 4-1 at Watford.

Aaron Mooy scored twice for the Terriers with Elias Kachunga and Laurent Depoitre each adding a goal.

Watford's Troy Deeney was shown a straight red card in the first half and Huddersfield's Jonathan Hogg was sent off for a second yellow in the 61st minute.

"We played well today," Huddersfield boss David Wagner said. "We were a threat on offence and very concentrated and focused on defence.

"In the end it was a deserved result."

West Ham's 3-0 win over Stoke City could spell the end of Mark Hughes' managerial reign at the struggling club.

Stoke have only won one of their last seven, including hammerings at the hands of Liverpool, Spurs and now West Ham.

With his club now drawn into a relegation battle, the former Manchester City manager could be looking for a new job on Monday.

The Hammers have moved two-points clear of the relegation zone with the comfortable win.
