New Zealand's Cody Harris has been knocked out in the first round of the PDC World Championships in London on Monday morning (NZT).

The Aucklander was up against the odds in a clash with 17th-ranked Englishman Ian White, showing grit to fight back to tie the match at a set apiece before ultimately going down 3-1.

The 32-year-old earlier overcame North American champion Willard Bruguier 2-1 at the hallowed Alexandra Palace to clinch a spot in the tournament's final 64.

Also seeking a place in the final 64 is Kiwi Bernie Smith, whose preliminary qualifier is against China's Zong Xiaochen on Thursday (NZT).
