Oklahoma City Thunders' Kiwi centre Steven Adams has been ruled out of their NBA clash with the New York Knicks on Sunday (NZT).

The Thunder confirmed that Adams has been placed in the league's concussion protocol after injuring himself in Saturday's triple overtime 119-117 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 24-year-old suffered a blow to the head after making contact with 76ers star centre, Joel Embiid with just 32 seconds remaining in the game.

He played a season-high 51 minutes in the encounter, more than any other player has the entire season.

Adams will now begin the NBA-mandated Return-to-Participation Protocol, which includes a series of steps designed to ensure the athlete is symptom-free before they can make their return to basketball.
