Dave Taylor is preparing to return to Australia to weigh up his future after being released by the Toronto Wolfpack.

The former Australian forward, ex-Parramatta cult figure Fuifui Moimoi and Ryan Bailey were on Thursday released by the North American franchise just two weeks out from their season opener.

It's understood Taylor will return to Australia to be with his family and see his two young children.

It's not yet known if he will seek to pick up a contract with an NRL club after departing the Wolfpack without playing a game.

His management would not comment on Taylor's future.

After 181 NRL games for Brisbane, South Sydney, the Gold Coast and Canberra, as well as eight State of Origins for Queensland and one Australian cap, the 29-year-old's career now appears to be on thin ice.

The club did not divulge the reason for his axing as they returned from a week- long camp in Portugal.

"Fuifui Moimoi, Ryan Bailey and Dave Taylor have left Toronto Wolfpack by mutual agreement," the clubs said in a statement.

"The club thank the players for their efforts and we wish them well in their future careers."

Taylor was touted as the club's marquee signing after they earned promotion into the second-tier England-based Championship and aim to earn a spot in the 2019 Super League.
