A young Auckland university student is $50,000 richer after a great catch in the crowd during New Zealand's Tri-Series T20 game against Australia at Eden Park.

Mitchell Grimstone stuck out his left palm over the deep square leg boundary to complete the grab and was subsequently swarmed by his friends next to him.

Blackcaps batsman Ross Taylor had smacked fast-bowler Andrew Tye down the ground for a massive six, only for Grimstone to steal the show.

The 20-year-old student is just the second person to win the Tui Catch a Million promotion this summer.
