Canterbury and Otago will take on the All Blacks in the now-traditional 'Game of Three Halves' in Christchurch on August 10.

The unofficial fixture - a round-robin format of three 40-minute games - has become a staple of the national team's Rugby Championship preparation and took on a somewhat notorious reputation last year when it was included in Sonny Bill Williams' suspension from the Lions series.

The 2017 game pitted the All Blacks against Counties Manukau and Taranaki.

"When we received the news last year that Christchurch wouldn't be awarded an All Blacks test match for the next two years, we asked NZR and our city stakeholders to rally around the Canterbury rugby community and they've certainly done that," says Canterbury Rugby Union chief executive Nathan Godfrey.

"The game of three halves isn't broadcast on TV, so we've deliberately kept ticket prices low to allow families to see the All Blacks play live."

Tickets will sell for $20 adults and $5 kids.

The match will also provide valuable preparation for the national provincial championship and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some club players to take on international stars.

"We are playing in Cantabrians' uniform, which means we might see a few club players in our squad and they'll get to play 40 minutes against the All Blacks," says Canterbury coach Joe Maddock

"That's going to provide a great challenge for some of these young guys and will be a dream come true for them, I'm sure."
