Keith Quinn derides Steve Hansen for Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi mispronunciation

Former broadcaster Keith Quinn has taken exception at All Blacks coach Steve Hansen's mispronunciation of the name of rising halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi.

After an impressive Super Rugby season, Hansen added the Chiefs back to his All Blacks 'foundation day' training camp in Wellington on Monday.

However, when questioned further on Tahuriorangi's efforts by media at the ensuing press conference he unashamedly dodged pronouncing his Māori name.

"It's a lot easier to say 'Triple T'," said Hansen with a grin.

Quinn took to social media soon afterwards to voice his disapproval.

"Memo to Steve Hansen: if you're going to include Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi in your All Black plans it's not acceptable to just call him 'Triple T' as you did on TV tonight. As you tell your teams before a test: 'practice, practice, practice!" he said via Twitter.

The veteran sports commentator has since received plenty of support for his plea, although his own misspelling of 'Tahuriorangi' also didn't escape unnoticed.
