Kiwi trainer Murray Baker looks to continue reign at Australian Derby

The Kiwi trainer the Aussies fear the most is hoping to live up to his nickname at Randwick this Saturday.

Murray Baker's four previous wins in the Australian Derby have seen him labelled the "King of the Derby", and he'll have four starters in the 2018 edition.

This year Murray’s team consists of New Zealand Derby winner Vin De Dance, Mission Hill, Weather with You and Mongolian Marshal.

The A$2 million ($NZ2.1m) Australian Derby is the richest race for three year olds in Australasia, held at Randwick Racecourse during the autumn Australian Turf Club Championships Carnival. It’s one of 20 races over the two Saturdays worth over A$20 million ($NZ21.1m).

Baker enjoyed Derby success for the first time with Nom Du Jeu in 2008, and followed it up with wins for It's A Dundeel (2013), Mongolian Khan (2015), and last year with Jon Snow.

His horses continued preparations in Sydney this morning.
