No hard feelings from departing Breakers veteran Mika Vukona

As he walks out the door, Breakers veteran Mika Vukona insists there are no ill feelings between him and the suddenly newlook Australian NBL club.

After 13 seasons and four titles with the Auckland-based outfit, Vukona has signed a two-year contract with the Brisbane Bullets, reuniting with former Breakers coach Andrej Lemanis and general manager Richard Clarke.

His departure, combined with that of foundation player and coach Paul Henare, has raised fears that new ownership has alienated some of the club's most iconic figures.

But Vukona has reassured Crowd Goes Wild that isn't the case.

"The Breakers have been great to me for the last 13-14 years that I've been here," he insisted. " I couldn't be happier.

"I've had some great times here, I'm just really looking forward to the Bullets journey right now."

Friday's announcement that the Breakers had re-signed Finn Delany for two years was perhaps an indication that the club was ready to promote the youngster into a more prominent role within the playing rotation.

"The way the team was heading and the way I understood it, Brisbane just came through at the same time and they really, really wanted me," he insisted. "It was a no-brainer.

"It was a nice opportunity to take with my family."

Under new chief executive Matt Walsh and general manager Dillon Boucher, the Breakers have replaced Henare with another former point guard - Kevin Braswell - who has fashioned a successful coaching record in the NZ national league with Southland Sharks and Wellington Saints.

"Change in clubs and organisations, and the way they're run is a good thing," Vukona, 35, told Crowd Goes Wild. "I'm excited for their future.

"I know, with Matt coming through, he's going to do a good job with Dillon and with the new appointment of 'KB', they're going to stay their steady course.

"It's just a pity I couldn't be there, but it was an awesome journey and I'm ready to take this new one."
