Cycling: George Bennett moves up 11 places in Giro d'Italia

Kiwi George Bennett has climbed 11 places in the general classification at the Giro d'Italia after a finishing stage four in 14th on Wednesday (NZ time).

Bennett now sits in 21st after finishing 10 seconds back in from stage-winner Belgian rider Tim Wellens after a hilly 202km stage from Catania to Caltagirone in Sicily.

Overall, he is 56 seconds behind tour leader Rohan Dennis of Australia.

The man from Nelson now sits one spot and one second behind Tour de France champion Chris Froome.

Bennett's pre-tour goal was to finish inside the top 10, right now he is 20 seconds behind the leading pack in the standings.

The fifth stage of the tour starts in Agrigento and finishes 153km later in Santa Ninfa in Southern Italy.

The Giro ends in Rome on May 28 (NZ time).
