Kiwi Danny Lee has claimed a nice pay cheque after finishing in the top 10 at the Players Championship in Florida on Monday morning (NZ time).

The 27-year-old pocketed NZ$530,000 after finishing in a tie for seventh after a final round of 72 at TPC Sawgrass.

The Kiwi golfer started the final day in second and made an early push thanks to birdies on the second and third hole, but he slowly fell off the pace with two bogeys on the back nine.

Lee finished -12 overall, six shots behind winner Webb Simpson.

Heading into the final round with the tournament's largest ever 54-hole lead of seven shots, Simpson held on tight during a one-over-par 73, and his 18 under total earned the American a four-stroke win.

South African Charl Schwartzel and Americans Jimmy Walker and Xander Schauffele all shot final rounds of 67 to finish at 14-under and tie for second.

Meanwhile, Tiger Woods finished at 11-under and tied for 11th after shooting a final round 69.
