Australians 'rapt' with snowfall

Australians have been hammered with bone-chilling winds out of the Antarctic.

It has even made its way as far north as the Queensland border, giving many in the sunshine state their first look at snow.

The icy blast caught locals on the hop as they struggled to acclimatise to freezing conditions.

"We're so rapt," says one Australian. "It's the first time we've ever seen the snow, so it's wonderful, it's all worth it."

"It's just a rare occurrence so close to Queensland and just great to be a part of it," says another.

The New South Wales town of Orange has been also been turned white.

It has been almost a decade since this much snow has fallen across such a wide area.

The ski fields have had ideal conditions with record snowfalls.
