Police in South Australia say they have no evidence to suggest a body found in a suitcase is missing British girl Madeleine McCann.
The body is believed to be that of a fair-haired girl aged between two and four who was killed up to eight years ago.
The discovery sparked immediate speculation about Madeleine, who was three when she disappeared in Portugal eight years ago.
The skeletal remains were found in a suitcase dumped in remote bushland 130 kilometres from Adelaide.
British police say they are aware of the story and have been in contact with Australian authorities.
"I find that quite interesting in itself, the fact that they have contacted Australian authorities, which they wouldn't always do in a case like this," says 3 News Europe correspondent Melissa Davies.
"They haven't ruled it out, but they're very careful not to arouse any speculation that this certainly could be Madeleine McCann."
