A giant inflatable Minion has caused chaos in Dublin, when it landed on a motorway.

The Minion escaped from its restraints and floated down the road in the suburb of Santry, stopping motorists from continuing, British newspaper Metro reports.

One eyewitness told the newspaper the larger-than-life Despicable Me inflatable had even managed to knock the wing mirror off a car.

"I'm not sure how it got loose but I just saw it coming loose and flying across the road as we were driving," witness Erin Van Londen said.

"It's been very windy in the area. We got quite a shock. Luckily it didn’t seem to cause much damage."
