Pictures of a large dead shark, pulled from the water in Australia's New South Wales, are doing the rounds on social media.

While he says he didn't take the photos, Geoff Brooks posted them on Facebook.

"Caught off 7 Mile beach over the weekend," he wrote. "Body apparently handed to CSIRO (the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation)."

However, a CSIRO spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the shark was not accounted for by their staff.

"We've seen the photos but we haven't got any information that it has been handed in or where it was caught," he says.

"There has been no indication from staff that it has been handed in to a CSIRO site, all we can say is that it is a tiger shark and not a white."

The pictures come as footage emerged showing a six-metre great white shark named 'Deep Blue' swimming off Mexico's Guadalupe Island.
