Video footage of a blazing fireball shooting across the skies of Bangkok has caused a stir on social media.
The light appeared Monday morning (local time), briefly streaking across the sky before appearing to burn up in the Earth's atmosphere, with video of the event surfacing online shortly afterward.
No aircraft were reported as crashing around the time of the incident, reported CNN, with one astronomer telling the broadcaster it looked like a meteor.
"It looks like an asteroid traveling to Earth and grazing through the air and it turned into a fireball," deputy director of the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand Saran Poshyachinda said.
Another theory was that it was a burning balloon, reported the Bangkok Post, quoting an official from the Bangkok Planetarium
According to the website satview.org, however, the bright object may have been space debris falling to earth.
